We arrived and the host was there to greet us. He told us we were getting a discount because we were middle-of-the-week travelers. He also informed us there would be an extra $5 (five) dollar charge for each of us (since we received the discounted rates) for a full breakfast, but a continental breakfast would be provided complimentary. "It's up to you," he said, "makes no difference to me." Now, when a host puts it like that, you tend to think, "If it makes no difference, what could he possibly serve us for a measly $10 extra?" We opted for the Continental. Of the two rooms, our room was the largest. Some of the funiture was so old we were afraid to sit on it. The carpet had not been vacuumed and it was a bit dusty, but the sheets were clean. Next morning, we went downstairs to our Lemon poppyseed muffins (which were very good), yogurt parfait, and Sunnydelight O.J. (really, Sunny D?). The parfait had a very pretty Impatien flower on top, which was quite perplexing because this flower is toxic and causes diarreah and vomiting - no one told us this, but I knew because I am an avid gardener. The host showed his face for a couple of minures and told us that he would be leaving in about 5 minutes to help with his daughter's remodel. "Please put the orange juice in the refrigerator," were his instructions to us. And he was out the door Bottom line: if you are not interested in playing host, don't be one. These people (never saw the Mrs.) have owned this B&B for years and I think they are tired of it and entertaining people. And... don't try to poison your guests.
