I took my car into the Norman, OK Christian Brothers before Thanksgiving 2016 because my clutch pedal was making a crunching noise upon being depressed. I chose Christian Brothers because of the largely great reviews. My first impression was great. They were polite, and prompt in calling me with a diagnosis on the problem. I was told the pedal was making some noise, but the culprit was the clutch itself and was quoted approximately $1300 for the repair. I agreed to have the repair done, and it was done the following week exactly when I was told that it would be.
Initially everything seemed fine, but within an hour or so the crunch was back. The following day I took it back, and asked why the crunch was still occurring. The person I spoke to said that the pedal wasn’t replaced and was just making noise and it was not going to affect the drivability of the car. After expressing my dissatisfaction with the fact that the very issue I brought the car in for was not resolved, I received a call apologizing for the “miscommunication” and was told that the issue would be taken care of and I need not worry about it. I was going out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday and I was told to bring the car back to them as soon as I got back in. The day I got back in, I called them and asked when I should bring it in, and was told the following Friday. As I was told, I brought the car in on Friday, and they told me they were too busy to look at it and to bring it on Monday. I agreed. Monday I brought it to them and was told they would get to it soon. On Thursday after noticing the car had not even moved from where I had parked it, I went by to ask when they would get to it. The manager was *somewhat* apologetic and said if they didn’t get to the car by the following Wednesday they would rent me a vehicle. The following Wednesday came and they still hadn’t gotten to it, but they told me the parts they needed had been ordered and would be in Friday, so I picked my car up instead of having them rent me one. I was told they would call me as soon as the parts came in. On Friday after not receiving a call, I finally called them to see when they would be able to get to it, and they said the parts were already in and they could get to it but it would be three hours. This was the Friday before Christmas and I was planning on going out of town, so we agreed that I would bring it in during the morning hours of the following Tuesday which is what I did. Finally the repair was done during the day on Tuesday, OVER A MONTH after bringing it in with the initial complaint (the crunching clutch pedal). I went in to sign for it and pick up the keys, and the manager attempted to charge me $400. After explaining to him that I was not told I would have to pay anything, let alone $400, he clearly became disgruntled. The service advisor whom I had primarily been dealing with regarding the repair came in and the manager stated in a less-than-polite tone “He thinks this was free”. The service advisor explained that it was, and I was able to leave without having to pay- thankfully.
With all of this said, the repair was finally done. The clutch and pedal were finally working as they should be. The work itself doesn’t appear to be shoddy. Had everything been done much quicker, I would consider myself highly satisfied. It is unfortunate that it took over one month to have my complaint completely resolved. Again, the crunch is what I took my car in for, that’s what I wanted repaired in the first place.
PROS: The quality of work appears above average, the service advisor I primarily dealt with attempted to be helpful and make it right when the repair was not done as I expected it to be.
CONS: The extremely long time it took to have the repair done and lack of communication about what was even being done to the car, the manager was at times pleasant to deal with and at times very unpleasant. Almost had to pay $400 and probably would have had it not been for the service advisor coming in when he did.
